We nic-named him Tokaj after a rare amber sweet sparkling Hungarian wine. We had been looking for mares, fillys or colts that had a Hollywood Dunit bloodline to incorporate with the great bloodlines we already had, so when we saw this cute Amber Champagne colt for sale with a Hollywood Dunit bloodline we had to have him even though it would bring us to three stallions as well as raising and training two that are weanlings. The first colt purchased, Champagne Cougarand, called Champ, was not even here yet as he was not weaned when Tokaj arrived. Tokaj was kindly delivered to us by his breeder/owner Angela Marques of San Miguel, Ca. Thank you Angela for allowing us to purchace this beautiful colt. Successfuly breed our Champagne mare, Classy, for a 2012 foal. |

We spent several years searching for a nice Champagne colt or stud prospect. We were close to purchase a couple times and were beaten by a short amount of time for the purchase by foreign buyers. It seams they appreciate our good colored Quarter Horses is other countries. So, we started watching ads every day when we found Champ and we really liked his bloodline and doubted we'ed ever get it since Cougarand stands in Canada. We were surprised to find a homozygous Gold Champagne for sale, or even find one at all since they are very scarce. The Champagne color is so rare that if you ask a horse person if they've ever seen one or ever know what a Champagne is, the mostly admit they don't. Well, we being lovers of unusual colors and possibly getting in on the next hot item, decided to buy this colt. We have not been sorry, he is a dream to work with. It only took him a few minutes to learn to walk across a wooden platform and then a blue tarp. He is backing up with a wiggle of his lead rope and moving his hind quarters from side to side with a touch of the handy stick.
Champ is 2 1/2 years old now (10/29/11) and ready to start training
under saddle. During the past 2 years we found another stallion, also
Champagne, Tokaj. Since we only need 1 stallion we decided to sell
Champ if someone wanted to purchase him under the condition of
retained breeding rights. |
